Today we got to celebrate the opening of the Park Morton apartments and that 15 former residents—so far—have moved back into their neighborhood. Many people worked thru a lot of challenges to get us here.

Columbia Road Bus and Bike Project Underway

DDOT is installing bus and bike lanes and new bus platforms along Columbia Road from 16th Street to Connecticut Ave. The project improves bus service on one of the busiest stretches of road in the District. It will make clearer for all road users who should be where, and enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Hearing on Violence Interruption Office: They Need a Vision and a Plan

The Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety heard hours of testimony Monday on how the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement is managing the violence interruption programs under its responsibility, in light of the recent bribery allegations that implicated Life Deeds, one of the contractors. Councilmember Nadeau attended the hearing to ask questions and to emphasize that problems with one contractor should not be seen as an indictment of all violence interruption programs and contractors.

Nadeau Announces Committee Vote on Investigation Into Ride Hailing App Empower  

Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau, D-Ward 1, today announced that the Committee on Public Works & Operations, which she chairs, will vote today to launch an investigation into the unauthorized operations of the ride hailing app Empower, citing its lack of compliance (or lack of proof of compliance) with numerous laws and regulations that protect the safety and security of consumers.

Nadeau Lauds Rezoning for 1617 U Street, Criticizes Density Retreat

I look forward to collaborating with the Office of Planning, neighbors, and local institutions to create a new community landmark we can all be proud of, one that will add density to the site, contribute to the shortage of affordable housing in this part of Ward 1 and provide new public amenities to help restore the vibrancy of this end of the U Street Corridor.
