Congratulations to Janeese Lewis George on the Birth of Her Son

I am delighted to extend my heartfelt congratulations to my colleague, Janeese Lewis George, and her husband Kyle, on the joyful arrival of their baby boy. This is a momentous occasion for their family, and I couldn’t be happier for them.

As someone with firsthand experience in this realm, I know that giving birth and raising young children while serving in office is no small feat, and it requires immense strength and resilience. I am so proud to support her in any way she needs as she takes on this new challenge of balancing work and motherhood.

I want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication Janeese has consistently shown as the Ward 4 Councilmember. She has been an unwavering advocate for her community, often putting her responsibilities above her own needs. I am so excited for her to now receive the support of the residents of Ward 4 and the District as we come together to celebrate this exciting time for her and her family.

During this special time, I encourage the public to grant Councilmember Lewis George the time and space to rest and heal, and enjoy these precious early moments with her newborn, knowing her Ward 4 constituents will be fully supported by her able staff.

Once again, congratulations to Councilmember Lewis George on this wonderful addition to her family. I look forward to seeing her thrive in this new role as a mom.

Today we got to celebrate the opening of the Park Morton apartments and that 15 former residents—so far—have moved back into their neighborhood. Many people worked thru a lot of challenges to get us here.
After more than a year of research, conversations with local distributers and retailers as well as residents, advocates, and students, followed by planning and drafting, the Council took its first formal action this week on DC’s bottle bill. I introduced this major environmental legislation to drastically reduce litter in our streets, parks, and rivers by placing a refundable 10-cent deposit on beverage containers sold in the District.
The bill will receive a hearing on October 1 at 9:30 am in the Committee on Business and Economic Development. Sign up to testify and submit testimony.
