Ward 1

Components

Ward 1 is in the heart of the District and contains the neighborhoods of Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, Adams Morgan, U Street, Pleasant Plains, Park View, Shaw, LeDroit Park, Meridian Hill, Lanier Heights, Kalorama and more.

Ward 1 Advisory Neighborhood Commissions

The District’s Advisory Neighborhood Commissions are the body of government with the closest official ties to the people in a neighborhood. They consider a wide range of policies and programs including traffic, parking, recreation, street improvements, liquor licenses, zoning, economic development, police protection, sanitation and trash collection, and the District's annual budget.

The ANCs present their positions and recommendations on issues to various District government agencies, the Executive Branch, and the Council.

Ward 1 has four ANCs. Each ANC has 5-12 members, called Commissioners, who each represent a Single Member District (SMD).

Find your Advisory Neighborhood Commission and the Commissioner who represents your Single Member District here: http://dcatlas.dcgis.dc.gov/mar/

ANCs typically meet once per month, and the meetings are open to the public. Their times are posted online here: http://anc.dc.gov/events

Public Safety

I believe in the power of strong communities creating safer neighborhoods. See the document below for a list of resources that may be useful if you need access to certain services or see a neighbor in need of help.

Ward 1 is divided between the Metropolitan Police Department’s 3rd District and 4th District. Stay up-to-date on MPD activity and your local Police Service Area (PSA) meetings by joining the 3rd District email group or 4th District email group.
