Washington – Today, Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne Nadeau introduced the Paperwork Reduction and Data Collection Act of 2017.
District residents and businesses have been grappling with the burden of filling out what seems like a mountain of various forms in their interactions with District agencies, often giving the same information to multiple agencies over and over again. Currently, there is no easy way to correct or update information with one agency or feel confident that the information will be shared with other appropriate agencies that would logically need that information. That means people are often giving the same or similar information over and over again. They also may wind up missing an agency when needing to update information. The result may be inconsistent records.
Nadeau Introduces Bill to Help Low Income Residents Replace Lead Pipes – Office of Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau
With majority Council support, today Ward 1 DC Councilmember Brianne Nadeau introduced the Lead Pipe Replacement and Disclosure Amendment Act of 2017 to help low-income residents replace lead private service lines on their property as well as disclose lead risk to homebuyers and renters.

Bill from Councilmember Nadeau aims to reduce infant mortality in the District
WASHINGTON – Aiming to reduce the District’s infant mortality rate, today Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau introduced a bill that will provide all new parents in the District with a “Baby Box.” The boxes encourage safe sleep practices by serving as a bassinet for infants and will come with essential items for new parents. The bill is modeled after a recent statewide initiative in New Jersey and a long-time program in Finland. The bill was co-introduced by Councilmembers David Grosso, Robert C. White, Jr., Kenyan R. McDuffie, Anita Bonds, Elissa Silverman, Mary M. Cheh and Charles Allen. It was cosponsored by Councilmember Trayon White, Sr.
Gun Violence Protection Order Bill Aims to Reduce Gun Violence in District – Office of Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau
Bill from Councilmember Nadeau allows residents and police to temporarily remove guns and prevent purchases if person is an immediate threat
WASHINGTON – Aiming to reduce gun violence in the District, today Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau introduced a bill that will give residents and police more tools to reduce access to firearms by those who are a risk to themselves or others. Modeled after successful California legislation, the bill is a vehicle for people to petition the court for a temporary extreme civil protection order where there is an immediate and present danger that the subject will cause injury to themselves or others. It allows police to immediately remove guns and prevents the subject of the order from legally purchasing other firearms for 14 days. After 14 days, the court will decide based on testimony and evidence if there is significant threat of harm to self or others to justify removing the firearms for a one-year period. The bill was co-introduced by Councilmembers David Grosso and Anita Bonds.

Councilmember Nadeau introduces early childhood legislation to help kids thrive from birth
WASHINGTON – Today, Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau introduced a bill to expand access to home visiting services run by the Department of Health after an Auditor’s report found the demand for the programs outstripped funding. The bill was co-introduced by Councilmembers Robert C. White, Jr., Anita Bonds, and Elissa Silverman and co-sponsored by Councilmember Charles Allen.

Bill from Councilmember Nadeau preserves rights of tenants while reducing barriers for single family homeowners
WASHINGTON – Today, Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau introduced a bill to promote sales of single family homes by carving out a narrow exemption to the District’s Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA). The bill preserves the rights of tenants while reducing barriers for single family homeowners by preventing the assignment of TOPA rights for single family homes when the landlord maintains the home as their primary residence. The bill is co-sponsored by Councilmembers Grosso, Allen, and Cheh and Chairman Mendelson.
