WASHINGTON — The proposed merger of PEPCO and Exelon raises serious concerns for ratepayers and could deal a setback to District renewable energy investments according to a letter sent today by Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau to the Public Service Commission, which is tasked with reviewing the deal. Nadeau sent the letter after reviewing all submitted testimony and hearing from a large number of constituents on the issue.

WASHINGTON — Fulfilling a commitment to affordable housing, today Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau introduced and secured passage of emergency legislation along with Council Chairman Phil Mendelson that would help move forward the redevelopment of 64 affordable housing units as well as ground floor support services space at the Maycroft (1474 Columbia Rd. NW). The legislation will provide an exemption that allows Jubilee Housing, Inc., a faith-based affordable housing nonprofit, to secure its timeline for closing with its lenders, and facilitate the preservation of affordable housing in a neighborhood where demand far outstrips supply.

WASHINGTON –Three years after the creation of an independent ethics board for the District, a new bill introduced today will expand its authority, close loopholes and give it more resources and power to hold lobbyists, government employees and public officials accountable for breaking the rules. The Ethics Reform Amendment Act of 2015 is the first bill introduced by Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau (D-Ward 1), reflecting her commitment to open government and accountability. Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) and Councilmembers Elissa Silverman (I-At Large), David Grosso (I-At Large), Charles Allen (D-Ward 6) and Mary Cheh (D-Ward 3) are co-introducers of the bill.
