Final Ward 1 Snow Update – Office of Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau

Snow Removal

Crews made a lot of progress in the ward yesterday and last night, but we know not every street has been cleared yet. Many of those remaining streets will be addressed today, though I’ve been told by the snow team that a small handful may not be addressed until late this evening. All of the major arterials are clear.

Even though this was an historic snowfall for the District, I understand and share the frustration of residents who are still waiting for snow to be cleared. Throughout the storm, I have been doing everything I can as a Councilmember to help direct resources where they’re needed. I am in regular contact with the Mayor. Her team is very aware of the fact there are streets that still need attention in Ward 1. I will continue pushing until all streets in the ward are clear.

Tuesday Ward 1 Snow Update – Office of Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau

Ward 1 Snow Walk

After walking around the Ward yesterday to help with shoveling and to talk with neighbors, and after driving around neighborhoods this morning, I’m disappointed to report that the plows did not make much progress on our residential blocks in Ward 1 yesterday. The Mayor has 600 people working on the streets from all across the country. The National Guard is here. I can confidently say we have brought all the available resources to the table. And yet, I know that many of you are still stranded at home, probably ticked off that you can’t get your car out or that there are snow drifts making the sidewalks difficult to navigate. The residential plows are out, but they are sloooow. And if they would only give me one to drive around…

Snowzilla Progress Report – Office of Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau

Snowzilla Progress Report

Thanks to everyone for remaining patient. I know that those of you who haven’t been plowed out must be very frustrated. I cannot emphasize enough that with a storm of this magnitude it is going to still take more time not only to plow but to remove all the snow. Across the region we’re all coming back online, incrementally. Frankly, the freezing temperatures are not helping, and we’re all looking forward to 40 degree weather tomorrow to help with the melt.

According to HSEMA, this is actually the most severe storm we’ve had in the region since the 1922 storm that led to the collapse of the Knickerbocker Theatre in Adams Morgan. Whereas storms like Snowmaggedon stopped intermittently giving time to clear in between, this one was relentless with continuous snowfall for 36 hours. Oy.
