Ceremonial Resolution Honoring Maybelle Bennett’s Career

New Funding for Safer Communities in Ward 1
It’s been a difficult year in the District of Columbia when it comes to violence in our communities. As of October 2019, homicides in the past year were up District-wide from 126 to 136 and in Ward 1 from 9 to 14. Thoughts and prayers are nice, but concrete action is what we all need. Creating a safer place for all of our residents requires coordinated efforts between the Council, the Mayor, and all of our agencies with a presence in the community. For my part, I want to keep you updated on what the Council is doing in response.

Brianne on Your Block at Open Streets this Saturday!

Join Councilmember Nadeau this Saturday at DC’s very first Open Streets event! Nearly three miles of Georgia Avenue (through Wards 1 and 4) will be closed to motor-vehicle traffic, allowing residents to walk, bike along and in the roadway and enjoy a wide range of activities for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
A Message on Last Night’s Shooting on Columbia Road
I wrote this message in part while on the scene on the 1300 Block of Columbia Road, where last night 6 people were shot. One has died and one is in critical condition, with the others stable.
Comprehensive DCRA Reform Bill Brings Accountability and Transparency to Residential Housing and Construction
WASHINGTON – Today, Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau introduced a comprehensive bill to reform the District’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs by making it more accountable to residents and its decisions more transparent. The Tenant and Homeowner Accountability and Protection Amendment Act of 2019 was co-introduced by Councilmembers Mary Cheh and Anita Bonds and co-sponsored by Councilmembers Elissa Silverman, Jack Evans and Chairman Phil Mendelson. It was referred to the Committee of the Whole.
