Nadeau Statement: Fatal Shooting Overnight at 13th & V
Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau released the following statement following the shooting Friday night at 13th & V streets in the U St. Corridor.
“I extend my condolences to the family and friends of the individual who was killed in the fatal shooting early this morning at 13th & V streets.
“I spoke this morning with MPD 3rd District Commander Boteler. My staff and I will continue to communicate with MPD as the case evolves.
“The shooting also resulted in damage to vehicles, a school window and a window in an apartment building – a reminder that gun violence has a wide reach, impacting individuals, family members, property owners and a neighborhood’s sense of safety.
“As the Ward 1 representative on the D.C. Council, I continue to advocate for public safety resources, including securing funding for additional staff at the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement in the 14th & V street, at the request of the community, and in other Ward 1 neighborhoods, funding substance abuse intervention and behavioral health services, as well as supporting the Mayor’s and police chief’s staffing requests in the budget.”
